Gift certificates, gift cards, and coupons are three of the ways that you can pay for items you purchase on eBay. You need to have eBay and PayPal accounts, but if you don't, you'll be given the opportunity to register on eBay and sign up for a PayPal account when you purchase an item.

eBay members can pay for all or part of a purchase using gift certificates, gift cards, or a coupon.

To use a gift certificate, gift card, or coupon for a purchase:

• The seller needs to accept PayPal as a payment method.
  
  
• You need to use PayPal to purchase the item within 10 days of the end of the listing.

You can use more than one gift certificate or gift card per purchase. However, you can use only one coupon per purchase.

Redeeming a gift certificate, gift card, or coupon

To redeem a gift certificate, gift card, or coupon, you'll need to log into your PayPal account when you purchase the item. If you don't have one, you'll be given an opportunity to sign up.

The following steps assume that the seller is using eBay's checkout system. If the seller is using a different checkout system, he or she will send you an invoice or other payment instructions to help you complete your purchase.

2. Enter the redemption code from the gift certificate, gift card, or coupon in the "Redemption code" field at the bottom the page and click the Apply button.

3. s easier to copy it and paste it into the "Redemption code" field instead of typing it.
   
   
4. Click the "Update Total" link to see your new total.
   
   
5. Complete your purchase. If the value of your gift certificate, gift card, or coupon doesn't cover the total price of your purchase, you can pay the balance with your PayPal account using your PayPal balance, bank account, or credit card.

Sharing coupons

Some coupons that you'll receive from us can be shared with other people, and some can be used only by you.

• If the coupon doesn't specify an email address, then you're free to share it with others.
  
  
• If the coupon contains a specific email address, then only the owner of that email address can redeem the coupon.

If you have problems redeeming a coupon

If you are the owner of the email address on the coupon, but have problems redeeming it, make sure that your email address is specified in your PayPal account.

To add an email address to your PayPal account:

The fine print

Gift certificates and gift cards:

• Our gift certificates don't expire and no maintenance fees are charged on unused gift certificate balances.
  
  
• You can transfer a gift card to someone else, if it has not been used.
  
  
• If a gift certificate or gift card has been partially used, the remaining balance will be deposited into your PayPal account.
  
  
• Please read the reverse side of the gift card or gift certificate for any additional terms and conditions.

Coupons:

• To use a coupon, items must meet all coupon requirements.
  
  
• The coupon must not have expired. The expiration date is on the coupon.
  
  
• Only one coupon can be used per purchase.
  
  
• The seller can't use a third-party checkout system.
  
  
• eBay coupons can't be used for Half.com purchases.
  
  
• If you buy or win an item, you're required to purchase it even if you can't use the coupon you intended for that purchase. If that's not possible, you can contact the seller by clicking the seller's user ID on the item page.
